The confusion around this (I wasn't sure myself what exactly was needed
to keep a 1 year expiration after the initial $100) makes me wonder if
consumers are recognizing the value of this plan. If they aren't, then
T-Mobile is failing to get any competitive benefit from offering it.

For that matter, why do they even offer it? Even at $100/year they're
still cheaper than pretty much any other pre-paid service.

I think it may have more to do with all of the phone costs for a
pre-paid phone being paid up front.
