questions about distributions

Well i guess I'll put in my two cents:
The only two distributions that i have had recently installed are RH 6.x, and
Caldera 2.2.
One problem that i see with Red Hat is that it installs KDE in
/usr, when the usual install of KDE goes into /opt, Red Hat does the same
type of thing when it comes to QT, i don't know where it installs QT, but it
doesn't put it in /usr/local/qt, where i would expect to find it. Secondly, i
don't really like RH6.1's upgrade. Yesterday as an experiment, i put in the
RH6.1 CD, and selected to upgrade. The machine that i was upgrading had just had
a fresh install of RH 6.1, so i would think that i wouldn't install anything,
but i actually installed more than 500MB of packages, after the upgrade screen
said that i was going to install 0 packages of 0 size. The upgrade took about
30min which is about how long it takes to do a whole install. The same went for
a machine that had RH 6.0, the upgrade took just as long as a whole install
would take. The machines ran fine as far as i could tell, but i think that
Red Hat's upgrade function needs a little work.
With Caldera the only problem that i remember with the install is not having the
freedom of selecting individual packages. I feel that is major draw back for
someone who is familiar with linux.
and that's my two cents, for whatever its worth,
