[Discuss] Is it possible to run Signal on Linux?

I did download what I think is the Linux client you refer to -- on signal.org, they call it Signal Desktop. But when I run that client, it simply shows a QR code and tells me to scan it with my phone (I don't have a phone that accepts QR codes). There seems to be no way on this Signal Desktop client to enter a mobile number. The only other feature of this Signal Desktop client that seems relevant is that the menu has an option for "Set Up as New Device", but in fact choosing that menu option does nothing.

I do have a mobile number which is for a flip phone, not an app phone -- is there some way that number can be used to set up Signal on Ubuntu?
