And... that's essentially a bust.

Performing a dist-upgrade on Debian 8.1 works as a foundation but the 
video driver situation is a mess. Performing a dist-upgrade over 
Stephenson's Rocket (based on alchemist) doesn't work at all. Installing 
the 2.0 preview (brewmaster) directly works but it is missing quite a 
bit, things like configuration options that are saved across reboots and 
an enable desktop environment option that actually enables the desktop 
environment.
