I should mention that I can't vouch for the whole infrastructure aspect; 
I've never set up most of that stuff.  I came across DogTag when I was 
looking for linux utilities to interrogate some smartcards I had.  The 
command line utilities worked great for pulling out information from the 
smartcard.
