Computational Support & Training Manager
The Department of Chemistry at Boston University seeks a qualified IT
professional to fill an opening for its Computational Support and
Training Manager. This full-time, on-site position provides
information technology and computational science support for
Chemistry’s teaching and research missions, ensuring a sound
foundation of secure computing resources, support for department
academic database administration, and web site management. The
position also trains undergraduate and graduate students in the use of
computational and analytical chemistry software for coursework and
research applications, and consults and collaborates with faculty
research groups on problems related to computational chemistry. Local
computer hardware and software support will also be required on a
limited basis.
The successful candidate will possess experience in Linux server
administration, and be comfortable with both Mac and Windows operating
environments. The position interacts with department faculty, staff,
and students on a daily basis, as well as IT personnel at the College
and University level. Strong people and time-management skills are
essential.
Requires: BA/BS (MA/MS preferred), and five to eight years of
applicable experience. A background in Chemistry or a related
molecular science field is strongly recommended.
This Grade 56 position offers a competitive salary range with a mid-
point in the low $80’s. Starting benefits include health, dental, and
retirement plans; 20 vacation days/year; an annual Intersession break
(December 25 to January 1) and other paid University holidays; and
tuition remission for University coursework. The Chemistry Department
is located on Boston University’s Charles River Campus close to
Kenmore Square, and is accessible via the MBTA’s Green Line and bus
routes.
