The problem is solved.  The mp3 player needed to be rebooted and now
everything is working fine.  I can now load files without rebooting.
It must have been some idiosyncrasy with the player (or me).  Maybe it
rebooted the database like suggested. I also looked into the tagger
software and used easytag to change some of the file information on
the mp3 files.  Thanks for all the help.  My daughter also thanks you.
 I think she is beginning to appreciate the benefits of belonging to a
Linux group.
