Why what doesn't work? Raw copy of the ISO, or tarring up the contents?
The raw copy of the ISO should work. Tarring up and copying the contents
will not work because the information that makes it bootable lives
outside the file system - it's part of the El Torito bootable media
specification... which you can probably find somewhere online if you're
really looking for a Fine Manual to peruse.
