GNOME display question

A few minutes ago, I was moving my cursor to close an application from=20
the closer box, and the display change showing all 4 of my windows tiled =

in the workspace.  After I closed the application, the display changed=20
back to the normal overlapped scheme.
At the time I didn't have autoraise or autoselect selected.
