Linux/PHP question

So I take it your DocumentRoot is is in your home directory
(~tbit/html). right?

What user is Apache running as?  If it's running as apache or httpd (or
anything else but tbit) it might not have sufficient permissions to
write to a file anywhere in your home directory.
