I set up DD-WRT on a vintage (rev 1.x) WRT54G last summer. Configuration
was pretty easy, and I liked that it used familiar services, like
Dnsmasq, but stability has been a problem. It seems to crash every 3 or
4 weeks. However this could be the fault of the hardware. The WRT54G
used for this had been sitting on a shelf a long time, and was taken out
of its shrink wrap for this task, so I don't know how stable it would
have behaved under stock firmware.
Also, I haven't tried configuring it as a wireless client. I've read a
user account that the software needed to do so in DD-WRT is currently
broken.[1]
Later in the same thread it was mentioned that the WTR54GS (wTr, not wRt
- a travel router) can do wireless bridging using the factory firmware.[2]
