I'd suggest you start with the home page and see if you can find
install and configure information:
http://www.gnome.org/projects/NetworkManager/
IIRC, I needed to install a service and set it up to run on startup.
First, Applications | Add/Remove Software and do a search on
NetworkManager. You may want to install NetworkManager-gnome or
kNetworkManager, depending on your choice of desktop managers. Then
visit System|Administration|Services, select the NetworkManager and
NetworkManagerDispatcher, turn them on, click the checkboxes to start
them automatically, and don't forget to save your changes. You should
now see a widget in one of your panels you can pick a network to
connect to.
