The nice thing about emacs is that you can hack code anywhere. You
don't need a GUI and once you know what you are doing, you have a lot
of powerful customization options. However, I still consider myself
an emacs newbie compared to people who have been using it for many
many years. But, I frequently write code on headless machines, so
Eclipse is not an option. I'd say if you *only* know Eclipse, then
you are in trouble. But if you can be more productive with a full
IDE, then go for it. One of the problems is that full-featured IDE's
are incredibly slow and memory inefficient. Emacs/vi are much
slimmer...
