Firefox/Thunderbird: Tar file or RPM?

I've gotten to the point where I really like to stick to my distro's package
management whenever possible, and also "offical" packages.  I usually give
my distro a month or so to start supporting it.  Depends on the type of
release though.  Firefox 1.0 was a big deal, and I routinely downloaded on
my own since the distro I was using at the time would only support v0.8.
Firefox 2.0 doesn't seem like it's really that much of an improvement (at
least for me), since the "new" functionality is all just stuff I already
have extensions for.  So I'm much less inclined to install it outside of my
distro's normal update system.
