solaris 10 gdm config question

If the version of gnome on Solaris is close to what's on current
Linux distributions, and not a really old version, then there are
two places in the menus for setting the display resolution:
* the per-user display preference:
System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution
* the system-wide display settings:
System -> Administration -> Display
The system-wide setting sets the display's maximum resolution,
and the per-user setting allows users to choose a lower
resolution if they prefer.
Gdm presumably uses the system-wide setting.
