You *seriously* should talk to a financial advisor. Now. If you're in
your mid-thirties and married and not saving at all, you need to rectify
that as soon as possile. In fact, I just met with mine tonight. Email
me privately if you want his name. You should NOT take long-term
financial advice from people who don't spend their days studying the
options.
I would also recommend you join the bostoncontractors yahoo group.
There's a lot of great info there, especially about dealing with the
money side of contracting.
