Jerry,
Here is a link to give you a feel for how Ricoh does support Linux
http://www.linuxprinting.org/ricoh-faq.html#free_software_support
I used to work for a Large Independant Canon Dealer and the support
"from Canon" for Linux was either slim or none. I did a CUPS presentation
for Both GNHLUG and BLU a while back. I believe that my presentation is
still at http://www.blu.org/meetings/2003/04/ But everything I did to make
the Canon devices work with CUPS and Linux was done without the help of
Canon Corporate.
About 18 months ago I changed jobs and went to work for Ricoh as a
Digital Solutions Manager. One of the things that I really appreciate
about Ricoh is the Corporate Support for Linux. LinuxPrinting.org lists
Ricoh as "excellent", take a look at the number of Ricoh printers and MFPs
that are listed as Excellent, then only a few as "mostly" and only one as
"Paperweight" (hey, no one is perfect).
I hope that this info proves helpful to the group.
Regards,
Vince McHugh
