I concur with John on this Tanya.
Additionally, you can install Cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/) under
Windows. This is an OpenSource Unix environment that includes the GCC
compilers. Cygwin was written by David Korn who wrote the Korn Shell.
Linux is a much better solution for your purposes since you are a
computer science student.
