Not to be argumentative, but I disagree.
It's everywhere, it's free, it has good support from companies and it has
hooks written for it in every product from recipe generators to Banana
peelers. Every kid getting out of school knows it or Postgres. By your
reckoning, Yahoo must not know anything about databases...

It's here to stay and I doubt it's truly a laughing stock. You may not like
it, but let's not overstate the case...As it stands now, Postgres has less
support, but is more "correct" with regard to features. The speed claims by
MySQL have "buts", but either MySQL or Postgres are fine choices for
"enterprises" who can't afford to hire teams of specialists. If they could,
they'd be on Oracle or DB2.
