Wireless SRX technology

In the specific case that I am interested in:
1. Friend wants to buy a laptop. Most come with wireless-g adaptors.
2. Need to buy a router. 
the 4 port wired router cost about $30
the standard -g is about $57
the speed booster is about $70 and the SRX is about $150

In this particular home, I don't think that adding the wiring is a viable 
option.
