archival storage sub systems. We are located on West Street in
Waltham, MA.

opportunity:
Responsibilities
The core Archivas application, ArC, runs on ArC-OS which is at its
core a thin Linux distribution containing a standard Linux kernel,
binaries and a customized init subsystem. For the next revision of
ArC updates are planned for ArC-OS in evaluating a different base
distribution and kernel, configuration of the distribution, and
changes to the init subsystem that starts the OS and ArC services.
Archivas does not write device drivers and has not made any Linux
kernel modifications and believes strongly in the strength of the open
source community. Archivas is looking for a talented individual to
lead these changes. This is a 2-3 month contract position.
Experience and Education
- 3+ years experience in a software development environment
- 3+ years experience in Linux system administration/configuration
- Proven ability to configure and compile Linux kernels, drivers and
applications
- Proven driver/hardware debug capabilities for standard Intel
hardware in the Linux environment
- Proven knowledge of the operation of major Linux subsystems
including logging/log rotation, file systems, run levels, etc.
- Excellent scripting skills (perl, python, bash)
- Candidates should possess effective verbal and written communications skills.
- Candidates should have a solid grasp of software engineering
principles and have experience with all phases of development life
cycle methodologies.
Strongly Desired
- In-depth knowledge of multiple Linux distributions, preferences
around Fedora/Red Hat/Slackware
- Linux/UNIX development experience
- Extensive clustering experience
- Knowledge of other languages (C, C++, JavaScript, Java, etc.)
- Cluster Networking knowledge
- File System (ext2/ext3) knowledge
- Knowledge of Auto-Installation/OS Bootstrap systems
- Familiarity with Fibre channel systems a plus.
