Hi again. Thanks for the previous help with installing Apache /
Subverson. I have that on my machine now and I'm just reading through
the manuals. (I break so many things I should try to find a job in QA)
Anyway, a fellow mentioned Eclipse so I downloaded it last night. My
latest problem is when I try to run it I get an error saying it can't
find my JRE, even when I tell Eclipse where it is. I searched around
and didn't find any answer other than using -vm at the console. When I
don't use -vm I get a similar error. My other java apps work fine
(Azureus, JEdit) because I modified .bashrc as we discussed previously.
Here's what I get:
[eric at playPen110 eric]$ java -version
java version "1.4.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1)
Classic VM (build 1.4.1, J2RE 1.4.1 IBM build cxia321411-20040301 (JIT
enabled: jitc))
[eric at playPen110 eric]$ /opt/eclipse/eclipse -vm /opt/IBMJava2-141/jre/java
<error window pops up>
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
must be available in order to run Eclipse. No Java virtual machine
was found after searching the following locations:
/opt/IBMJava2-141/jre/java
Now that's where my JRE is. Why the error? Also, is this a good IDE
for a new programmer or are there alternatives that should be
considered? Thanks for any tips.
