Trouble with Raid 1

It looks like you got a pretty good clue from your messages....

So hdb8 is working okay. What is the other partition you want to use with your
raid1? By definition, raid1 is mirroring, which means you need two partitions
of equal size, or one partition where you only use as much space is the
smaller of the two partitions.
