dual boot with ME failing

You can reset the MBR. 
If you have a bootable DOS disk, run fdisk /mbr
In Linux:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1
This will clear your MBR, but make sure you have a way to boot Linux.
Both Red Hat and Suse have built-in rescue systems on their install
media.
