I had contemplated getting Sun's Java certification and/or the LPI
certification, but one of my headhunters told me it wasn't worth the
cost; there are so many people out there with those certificates that
employers don't pay attention to them.  In this market, experience is
about the only thing that counts.

That seemed odd to me, since a certificate would be a more objective
measurement of one's skill than a line on a resume, but this headhunter
was highly recommended by several of my friends, so she must know what
she's talking about.

Disclaimer: this is for programming work; maybe the people hiring
sysadmins have different standards.
