Public DNS server?

Ok, still trying to nail this down.  I don't feel warm and fuzzy after 
seeing a handful of posts with this exact problem (XP no longer doing DNS 
resolution) on one of the XP newsgroups.  Does anybody know of a public DNS 
server that I could try temporarily pointing to, in order to rule out it 
being the ATTBI servers that I'm getting by default?  I suppose it could be 
something to do with them,
though I'm reaching at this point.
