Viruses, Trojans and Worms do not require email (although email is the
most common way today) to infect systems. I have seen viruses embedded
in commercial software (that is rare today though). But, these all can
cause a system to become infected by even using an infected diskette. 

While most affect Windows systems, there are Unix, Linux and Mac worms
and viruses, and the first worm in 1988 was indeed a Unix worm.
