CUPS can be a little confusing to pick up, but it is very powerful, supports 
lots of printers, has a web interface, and can masquerade as regular 
lpr/LPRng.

It uses port 631 using an HTTP protocol: you configure it with your browser, 
or manually.  The config files are in /etc/cups.
