Strange performance of Linksys box

I recently replaced my Linksys cable modem/DSL router with the wireless
version. Everything seems to work fine, but I noticed one anomaly with my
laptop:
When I connect, it assigns ip address 192.168.0.100, then later on I see
that the ip address is 192.168.0.101. (This is a direct connect since I
have not yet been able to get my wireless card to work properly under
Linux).
In the past, if I removed and reinserted the PCMCIA card, I would generally
get the same ip address. Sometimes my dongle connector breaks contact, but
in the past I have always been assigned the same ip. Not a serious problem,
but mildly annoying. I could assign a static, but I use the laptop at work
and at Northeastern, both of which use DHCP, so it would be a bit of a pain
to switch.
