I'm not sure I totally understand your question... do you want to set the 
"domainname" on your machine?  If so, you can place the desired domain 
name in '/etc/defaultdomain'.  It will be found and read during reboot in 
"state 2".  See "/etc/rc2.d/S69inet" to see where it gets set.
