Hello to all:
In trying to install a working kernel for a corrupt system, I managed to
compile a new kernel on a simlar system to install in the corrupt system,
only to be faced with:
Loading.............................................
(2 minute, 15 second pause)
Uncompressiing Linux...
invalid compressed format (err=2)
-- System halted
The systems are RedHat 6.2, kernel 2.2.14, the working one, a Hewlett
Packard Vectra VL 5133, the other (problematic system), a Hewlett Packard
Vectra Pentium III. The P3 HP worked just fine until I tried to install
a newer kernel. I was able to secure a copy of bootable 6.2 CDs and
mount the hard drive partitions to /mnt points. I also thought I made a
backup copy of the good kernel but discovered I made a copy of the wrong
file :(
If it comes down to recompiling a kernel on the damaged P3 system, which
has its directory structure spread over many partitions (neither system
has SCSI), how do/can I recompile the kernel on the bad system via the
bootable 6.2 CD?
Thanks in advance.
Scott
