corrupt rpm database

Help!
When I was running helix-update the other day my system hardlocked (and 
started beeping at me) so I had to kill the power.  Now whenever
I try and install any RPM files I get pages of this message:
error getting record LC_MESSAGES from //var/lib/rpm/fileindex.rpm
then a seg fault.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
