I find the GIMP's user interface opaque. You have to read the manual :-)
So I'm not the only one. I've spent (wasted?) a lot of time trying to
learn how to use what's obviously a powerful graphics package.
Unfortunately, while I've often succeeded in making big
transformations to various images, they have almost never been the
transformations that I wanted to make. Since I can't get it to do
what I want, I can't actually use it for anything.
I have several GIMP books, and all seem to be written for someone who
already knows most of it. I can walk through the examples and see
lots of huge changes on the screen, but there is rarely any visible
relation between what I did with the mouse and what happens on the
screen. Is there a beginner's text somewhere that explains how to get
it to do the most trivial things right?
