Hello,
No Linux-ppc will not run on a 6100.
http://www.linuxppc.com/support/guide/UserGuide_Feb2000.pdf
Linux-PPC & Yellowdog requirePCI based powermacs like the 601,603,604,750
(G3), and the 7400 (g4). The NuBus based pwermacs like the 6100, 7100,
and the 8100 all require MKLinux which was a product developed by Apple
(http://www.mklinux.org They have a super cool dancing penguin on that
page) for the purpose of beta testing their mach kernel. After the Mach
kernel was moved to MacOS X development of MKLinux really stopped. I was
able to get my copy of MKLinux from amazon.com, there starting to get rare
it seems. If you require cutting edge off a mac, its time to buy a newer
one anyway - if you want to have fun and go back to the days where Linux
required a bit of effort to figure out MK Linux is good. Myself
personally, I have been using Linux for a bit over three years. I miss
the old days sometimes when it was tough, not impossible - but difficult.
The install isn't pretty, but it works.
I'm not sure how much of the above was knownen by people, but I
figured a little bit of background would be good for people. THat
includes myself as I was a bit rusty with knowledge as well. On BLU's
website http://www.blu.org/links/ under ports I added a few links about
ppc and other proc.
Hope thats a help,
Anthony
