TWIMC,
A user whom we helped at the installfest has asked me to post a
request for help. She wants a Linux box to interface with her
(soon to be installed) IDSL connection, but has decided that she
doesn't have time to do it herself.
N.B.: the user wants a turnkey solution, and will pay for it.
She wants to hire someone to configure a 486 DX-2 which is now
running RH 6.0 for these services:
1. Firewall for IDSL Internet connection
2. Apache Web Server
3. Samba server
4. Gnome workstation
5. Perl and/or PHP development platform for web applications.
The user wants Apache to "demo" her web design work, not for
production use, but it's still a close call: this is an ISA-ONLY
box, with a non-Y2K BIOS, and may be underpowered for the mix of
applications.
The existing Ethernet card on the machine is a DLINK DE-220 ISA
PnP, which is supposed to be an NE2000 clone, but I couldn't get
the Linux NE2000 driver to talk to it in the time I was willing
to spend. She'll need an Ethernet connection for her internal
LAN, and another card for the IDSL CSU.
I don't know if the IDSL provider will be using PPPOE, DHCP, or
something else to connect. The user may want you to handle
details of sendmail & fetchmail setup as well.
Those interested may call or email me for details.
