Re; KDE vs GNOME

Both of these are worth looking into.  I started with KDE because I felt GNOME was not quite polished enough (  a year ago).
At that time I was switching to Mandrake (6) from SuSE (6.1). As an aside, the Mandrake install recommended KDE and 
installed it well I thought.  My experience with KDE is that it is fairly straightforward to create desktop icons, drag apps onto the panels.
The integration of  KDE apps is nice.  The file manager works great as a browser ( no javascript, etc, those things get ignored with no crashes) 
and using it to point to online documentation can't be beat.   Clicking on URLs in KMail starts the KFM up and things load fast. 

In March I heard Miguel de Icaza talk about GNOME and I switched to it.  I don't feel it has as much integration as KDE, maybe it's
just different. But it's more <opinion> FUN </opinion> I think  and works well.  I'd like to see a GNOME mail app  that works all of the time, 
( I still use KMail ) and a file/web explorer ( that is coming soon however).

So if you like the drag n' drop experience, go for one or the other. HelixCode has CD's with the Helix GNOME distro for sale or you can just 
pop over to www.helixcode.com and download the installer.  There is a great update tool that shows  what is new, what is required/optional, and 
lets you choose download sites.  Select what you want and let it rip.  

Oh, I use Sawfish with GNOME.  No opinion there.
