Any luck interfacing with MS Exchange?

Greetings,

Has anyone heard of a opensource project which is driving towards
an opensource interface with MS Exchange. 

I'm hoping for something as simple as a PHP library plugin.  Perl
would be fine too.

I've got a web-base calendar which could benefit greatly if it
could talk to Exchange.
