I think I paid at least another $300 for those 10 seconds, but I wanted a 
bleeding edge Athlon and TNT video card, not two Celerons.  Now I am 
thinking of getting yet another computer, and dual PIIs or Celerons may be 
the way I'll go.
     
But your results are a case in point--a real OS runs well on real hardware, 
and runs like a dog on antique hardware.  Linux is no different, except 
unlike some OS'es it will actually run on a 386.
