Check the changelogs on kernelnotes.org -- I believe they'll tell you.
IIRC, I believe the kernel itself will support up to 16 CPUs, but the
Intel platform currently only exists in either 4 or 8 cpus max (I can't
remember for certain which it is... I think intel just built an 8-cpu
board...)
Linux 2.2.14 supports 16 cpus on UltraSparc, IIRC.
