RCN vs Mediaone cable modem experiences?

They installed it on mine.  I even told the installers I was running
Linux.  One of them said, "I hate Linux," but they let me set it up
myself.  The other one even wanted to watch me set it up, so he could
do it for others with less experience.  I suspect they see an awful
lot of Linux boxen, because people who run Linux are exactly the types
of people who would want high-bandwidth access.

In fact, their pre-installation guide says only that you need a
computer with a TCP/IP stack; they don't even mention Windows or
Macintosh.

So, I run an ssh server from my machine, and they haven't bitched to
me yet.  Of course, I don't run anything else of import (not even an
SMTP server), but I do ssh into my machine 5-10 times a day.
