I actually prefer to use mod_rewrite for personal web pages. I
already needed mod_rewrite for other uses and I also don't use the normal
"~username" convention. The following accomplishes pretty much what
mod_userdir does:
RewriteRule ^/home/([^/]*)/?(.*) /home/$1/.www/$2 [L]
