I assume you have the original distribution, which includes the FAQ document?

Samba has two key differences from a standard (Microsoft) SMB server: (1) it
uses NetBIOS/SMB encapsulated in TCP/IP and will not (at present) work with raw
NetBIOS/SMB, and (2) it is not a browsable resource and either each client must
manually specify the server name or some machine other than the Samba server
must be made the resource browser.
